What is Patreon?

In advance of my new fundraising plan, I thought I’d better explain just what Patreon is.

Why Patreon?

Unlike other platforms like Kickstarter, Patreon does not set an end goal for a produced product – instead, patrons agree to pay an amount per month of content.  Another big draw of this system is that there is no time period.  When I did my Kickstarter for Issue 1 of PCR, I was also recovering from gall bladder surgery and stomach ulcers, so the Ticking Clock Of Doom was excruciatingly stressful.

Don’t get me wrong: the time-sensitive nature of the Kickstarter pushed me to get the product out in ways I would not have dared otherwise.  It has its place, but I’m funding more than just my comic this time around.

What Are You Funding Again?

The money from the Patreon will go toward my comic‘s art, but I am also using the funds as fuel for my prose writing: my extra-dimensional horror story MAYFLYmy urban fantasy story, and other projects like Yellow River Red Star.  I’ll also keep up my poetry and slice-of-life blog posts on a weekly basis.  The support will keep me honest about getting these all updated regularly – I guarantee, I’ll feel the love!

If you want to take a look at the Patreon, here’s a preview.  It lacks a video and content and links, so I won’t take it live for another few days.

You bet your ass I’m excited about this fundraiser.  I’m going to do everything in my power to get content to you all in a timely, organized manner.  See you again soon!
